When the gates of Vijayardha mountain opened, a fierce explosion followed, and the flames rose to the sky. Apart from the widespread uproar, the entire army stood frightened near the water ditch. Emperor Bharata realized the fire would take about six months to subside. Hence, along with his army, he moved towards his palace. Knowing that conquest of the northern Mleccha khanda kingdoms would take time, he ordered his sons Jayakumar and Vijayanka to conquer the eastern and western kingdoms of Mleccha khanda, respectively. They were both successful and strengthened the royal alliance by marrying the daughters of the kings of those kingdoms. After six months, Emperor Bharata wondered if it was time to move toward the northern kingdoms. Kritamal deva, the lord of Tamisra cave, arrived at Emperor Bharata’s court and informed him that the fire had subsided. Emperor Bharata was aware that the cave was strange. Sindhu river, which had its mouth in the southern direction, flowed through the cave's center. Two swiftly flowing tributaries named Unmagna and Nimagna joined it from the eastern and western direction, respectively. The waves of Unmagna river were so high that a person entering would get tossed high up into the sky. The Nimagna river flowed so rapidly that a person entering it would get pulled towards the underworld. Emperor Bharata noted that they would have to move carefully. Although they could have crossed other rivers using Charma ratna (a type of gem possessed by a Chakravarti), building a bridge to cross the rivers flowing in this cave was necessary. Since the cave was very dark, He decided to use the light emitted by Kakini ratna (a type of gem possessed by a Chakravarti). Further, he felt that they would have to destroy the northern gate. Considering these requirements, the emperor assigned Bhadramukh to build the bridge and Kritamal deva to secure the cave. He entrusted Jayakumar with destroying the Vajra gate. As soon as the army completed all the tasks assigned to them, Jayakumar informed the Emperor about it and that they were now ready to begin the journey towards the north.
After a month, the divine sound announcing their departure aroused enthusiasm in the entire army. The emperor, his family, and the army marched towards the cave to conquer the northern Mleccha kingdoms. Jayakumar led the procession, followed by the army of Vyantar devas, with the graceful emperor in the middle. The emperor’s queens, the army, and other relatives followed them. Celestial beings wished Emperor Bharata a victorious journey by showering flowers from the sky. Eventually, the entire procession safely emerged from the northern gate of the cave.
विजयार्ध गुफा वर्णन एवं म्लेच्छ खण्ड विजय – वज्र कपाट खुलते ही अग्नि के भयंकर विस्फोट से आकाश तक ज्वालायें उठी और सर्वत्र हाहाकार मच गया। सभी जन घबराकर पानी की खाई की ओर खडे रहे। सम्राट भरत यह बात जानते थे कि इस अग्नि को शांत होने में लगभग छः महीने का समय लगने वाला है अतः वे सेना सहित अपने महल की ओर चले गये। उत्तर दिशा के म्लेच्छ खण्डों की विजय में अभी समय था अतः सम्राट ने अपने पुत्र जयकुमार और विजयांक को क्रमशः पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशा के म्लेच्छ खण्ड पर विजय प्राप्त करने हेतु आज्ञा दी, जिसमें वे सफल भी रहे और उन देशों के राजाओं की पुत्रियों से सम्राट ने विवाह कर राजसंधि को दृढ किया। छः महीने व्यतीत हो चुके हैं और अब बारी उत्तर दिशा की ओर प्रयाण की है, इसी चिंतन में मग्न त्रिखण्डाधिपति सम्राट भरत की सभा में तमिस्र गुफा का देव कृतमाल आया और उन्हें गुफा की अग्नि के शान्त होने की सूचना दी। सम्राट जानते थे कि यह गुफा विचित्र है, इसके मध्य में दक्षिण की ओर मुख करती हुई सिन्धु नदी प्रवाहित हो रही है और पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशा से दो भयंकर प्रवाह वाली नदियाँ आकर मिल रही हैं, जिनके नाम क्रमशः उन्मग्न और निमग्न है। उन्मग्न नदी की लहरे इतनी ऊँची है कि उसमें जाता हुआ मनुष्य आकाश तक उछल जावे और निमग्न नदी का प्रवाह इतना तेज है कि उसमें जाता हुआ मनुष्य सीधा पाताल की ओर धस जावे अतः संभल कर जाना होगा। अन्य नदियों को चर्म रत्न की सहायता से पार किया जा सकता है परन्तु इस गुफा में बहती नदियों को पार करने हेतु एक पुल का निर्माण अवश्य ही करना होगा। यह गुफा अत्यन्त अंधकार युक्त है अतः काकिणीरत्न की प्रभा से काम लेना होगा और उत्तर के वज्रद्वार को भी तोडकर बाहर निकलने का मार्ग तैयार करना होगा। अतः इन सब आवश्यक्ताओं को ध्यान में रखते हुए सम्राट ने पुल बांधने का कार्य भद्रमुख को, गुफा के संरक्षण का कार्य कृतमाल को और वज्रद्वार तोडने का कार्य जयकुमार को सौंपा। एक महीने बाद जैसे ही कार्य सम्पन्न हुआ तो जयकुमार ने सम्राट से विनती की कि आपके द्वारा आदेशित सभी कार्य सम्पन्न हो चुके हैं और अब हम उत्तर दिशा में जाने हेतु सज्ज हैं। एक महीने बाद प्रस्थान भेरी के दिव्यघोष से सारी सेना में उत्साह जागृत हो गया और सम्राट सभी परिजनों और सेना के साथ निकल पडे उत्तर दिशा के म्लेच्छ खण्डों को जीतने गुफा की ओर। यात्रा में सबसे आगे जयकुमार, तदनन्तर व्यंतर देवों की सेना और उनके मध्य में सुशोभित सम्राट भरतेश। उनके पीछे उनकी रानियाँ और अन्य समस्त सेना और परिजन। सम्राट की दिग्विजय की कामना हेतु देवों द्वारा आकाश से पुष्प वृष्टि हुई और सभी जन सकुशल उत्तर दिशा के मुख से बाहर निकल गये।
